At Aiken Foundation, we promote public policy initiatives with the aim of raising awareness of grief and advancing meaningful social change in the way it is addressed. We work to ensure that grief is recognized, respected, and appropriately supported in all settings: schools, the media, the healthcare system, and community spaces.
In this section, you can first learn about the Regulatory Framework for Supporting Grieving Children and Adolescents in Educational Settings, approved in November 2025 by the Buenos Aires City Legislature.
You will also find the other bills we have submitted and promoted, as part of our commitment to a more informed society that is aware of the impact of loss. Together, we can build systemic change.

Regulatory Framework for Supporting Grieving Children and Adolescents in Educational Settings (Buenos Aires City)
In September 2025, a bill was introduced in the Buenos Aires City Legislature proposing various measures to support people experiencing grief in educational settings. Following collaborative work among different political groups, a framework law was approved.
The initiative is based on Aiken Foundation's 17 years of experience and on the recognition of the difficulties institutions face when providing healthy support following experiences of loss. This law seeks to provide a framework for intervention and guidance for schools in the City of Buenos Aires.

National Bereavement Awareness Day
In May 2025, with the support of various legislators, we submitted a bill to establish a National Grief Awareness Day.
This date seeks to raise awareness of this universal human experience, break the silence that often surrounds it, and foster a culture of support.
We believe that having an official day on the Argentine calendar will help place grief on the public agenda, create spaces for collective reflection, and recognize the importance of providing compassionate support to people experiencing loss.
It is also proposed that this date be incorporated into the school calendar in order to create a space within educational settings for reflection, dialogue, and greater visibility of the issue, thereby promoting greater awareness and support through schools.
National Program “Support Network for People Experiencing Grief”.
In October 2024, Aiken promoted and submitted a second bill on grief to the National Chamber of Deputies: the National Program “Support Network for People Experiencing Grief”.
The project's main objective is to train, strengthen, and raise awareness among those who make up the support network for people experiencing grief (health professionals, teachers, family members, and other community members) through communication campaigns, training programs, postgraduate programs, network development, statistical research, and the design of indicators.
This project focuses on population mental health, as difficulties during grief can be a risk factor for problematic substance use, depression, psychosocial difficulties, and deaths by suicide.
National Program for Comprehensive Support for Grieving Children and Adolescents
In June 2023, together with a group of legislators from different political parties, we submitted to the National Chamber of Deputies the bill “National Program for Comprehensive Support for Grieving Children and Adolescents”.
This project focuses on the educational setting. Some of the priority actions it proposes are:
- Include content on grief in the Institutional Projects of educational institutions.
- Incorporate content on childhood and adolescent grief into initial and ongoing teacher training programs.
- Promote mandatory and free training for teachers, school guidance teams and educational staff at all levels of the local education system.
- Design and implement intervention protocols in situations of grief in the educational field.
- Create spaces for dialogue and psychoeducation for families, teachers and educational teams affected by situations of grief.
